For those who showed interest in the RC 388 cams. Because they were not and are not mine i returned them to the owner. He has them listed on ebay now, just enter Russ Collins and you will find them.

Good, bad, or indifferent I’m the owner of these cams. I have been scouring the Internet looking for any information at all about RC engineering. To my surprise I came across an article written by a gentleman named Tom McCarthy, were sons of Russ Collins are restoring their dads Honda drag bikes. I have reached out to Tom in hopes to connect with one of the brothers and ask if they have and records or specs on this cam and the other R.C. Cam I have. I’ll keep you posted.

I measured the base circle and appears to be the stock 1.110 diameter. Subtracting that from the lobe height I get about a .409 lift. Really all I can do. Is there a way to measure out the duration without putting them in an engine and all. Can they possibly be sent to a Web or APE type of company and have them run the numbers

The service manual shows a setup for measuring the camshaft runout. This is most of the way to what you'd need. They show two V-blocks and a dial indicator on a stand. If you figured out some way to stick a degree wheel to the end of the camshaft, you should be able to see where the lift is 0.050" on each side of the lobe, and record the start and end angle. Maybe?

It seems pretty unlikely they still have what you need, but have you tried to contact the current version of RC?

"Finally" found my RC eng catalog from 1980 and it has your cam listed.

RC388 (900/1000)/ RC410 (650)
A high-lift "Hot Street" class cam that provides a marked increase in acceleration and torgue. Ideal for the street class racer who wants more power without the radical characteristics of a full race cam.

Total duration: 298 degree's
Lobe centers 108 degree's
Lift: .416" intake.......... .416" exhaust
Lash: .004 in........... .006 ex They guarantee 100% accuracy backed by 10 years of record breaking performance and that each cam is "Parkerized" but I'm sure that's long gone. by now. No more specs other than that except At the end it states it recommends their lightened cam followers and all cams except the 370 requires head notching for cam lobe clearance.... And yes you were pretty darn close when you said .409 lift so good job on that.

Where is Zucdave he needs this for his 650.:woohoo:

Awesome. Is the duration advertised or at 50?

Cool. That's great that you found that info. Do the specs say what amount of valve lift was used for the duration measurement?

So at 0.416" and 298, the RC388 isn't too far away from the Andrews 3X, at 0.418 and 282 (measured at 0.030"). The Web 218 grind is also similar, at .418 and 280° (or 242 at 0.050").

As I noted earlier, the RC cam designer seem to really push the duration number as high as possible.

The Web 218 grind description says "Street or turbo. Broad overall power range. Requires Shim Under Followers, and Performance Valve Spring Kit."

RC Engineering say it can be used with SOT, but recommended their lightened buckets. That's the way it was set up when Asphalt900 opened it up.
