Hi all, I took my clutch apart as it was not going into gear and the consensus was the plates were stuck. Freed up the plates, and when putting back together noticed these cracks around the clutch spring cover hole. Anyone else ever have this problem? Looks like I'll need another if anyone has one...thanks!

Thanks for your reply; I see you also replied to my Wanted ad.

Man, these sure look like cracks to me, and on eBay I see others without them. Hopefully you can see why I'm concerned. Would you feel comfortable putting this back on? Not that I'm doubting you!

Maybe some else can chime in to make me feel better about reusing it. Thanks!

They don't seem to go through into the holes the springs/bolts sit in, and nothing on the back. If they are embossed (raised?) marks they should smooth out with a file, which I'm going to try now...

Penetrating dye and developer are a good check for cracks. Some casting flaws can be deceiving, but in the picture those appear to be cracks to me.,

Pic of the underside? There may be other things to look at.

Well, I think I owe Scirocco an apology...when I took a file and sandpaper to one of the "cracks", it smoothed out and I can't catch a fingernail on it. They look like tiny metal raised "veins" that I swore were cracks, but do not appear to be.

Similar lines appear on the underside of cush-drive hubs on the rear wheel. They had me worried until I noticed all of my bikes had them. When things are clean, they down't show up as much.
