Dear guys
My name is Chris, 38 years old and from Austria.
I am turning a very bad 650 into a cafe racer. The lady has 130k KM run so I perform complete Motor revision.
Now I would like to order the spare parts but it am not able to find correct rod bearings. No sign on the rods or the crank visible. No colour code.
Many thanks
Cheers Chris

Is that a colour code? Seems to be black. There should be also blue and brown sleeves available...

There are other threads on this as well. I think someone posted the part numbers for the later ZR7 bearings which interchange.

My question is why did you take it apart? Everything looks good.

Dear Steve
Basically that engine needs complete top end job. New pistons, new valves with guides. Due that I have decided to check also lower end. I have also to change primary chain as well the kick starter claws.

But you are right. I have not plastigage the rod bearings. I only want to make them new because of that over all big invest.

I think i will order some plastigage and see what will be the result. Additionally I will order new black sleeves and test them also with plastigage.

Good idea?
Many thanks and cheers

I am positive I posted the info for using zr-7 rod bearings, as that is what I used in my motor. (Some of the kz rod bearings were out of stock at the time I tried to order them.)
BUT.....I am also positive that the kz bearings and the zr-7 bearing color to thickness coding are NOT the same!!!
A blue coded bearing will be a different thickness between the two models. I have that info buried in my computer somewhere I think but I can’t remember when or where I posted it.
So don’t try to order zr-7 bearings without doing the research.
