starter won't turn-over, but kick start OK was created by SpecialGreen
I'm re-habbing a '79 KZ400(B2) which has been parked for 8 years. I have the battery out, and hooked to a car jumpstart pack with full charge. When I hit the starter button, I hear the relay click, and the headlight dims, but nothing else. I am able to start it with kick start.
I searched on starter problems, and most seemed to involve a screetch/howl or other noise. In this case, there's no sound at all.

Sounds like a good way to fry the bike's electrics. Ed

Assuming a good battery...Start by cleaning all the connections. Begin with the starter button and go from there. You may have to pull the starter and have it tested. Sometimes they can be resurrected with a thorough cleaning.

It seems that the "good" battery I was trying to start with was actually no so good. The starter kicked-in using a different battery. The only good thing is finding out the battery is bad in the garage, instead of when I needed it.
