missing piece CAM CHAIN guide P/N 12053002 that fits against push rod 12054002

Hello All.

My front cam chain guide is missing that small plastic piece that fits against the push rod 12054002. Looking for anyone who may have an otherwise trashed cam chain guide where this piece is present and in tact and would be for sale.

Forgot to mention it is for a KZ400D 1976 model.

Thanks.

Sounds familiar to me. You have to search in your oil pan sludge for the missing piece.
KZR member Jack_Mills had the same problem like you with his 1976 KZ400 D3 Restore Project bike

Thanks. I had actually run an endoscope down into the case but if it's down there, I can't see it. I see where KZR member Jack_Mills had turned his engine upside down and got this same piece to fall out, perhaps that's where I'm headed.

Thanks for the help.

For cleaning reasons i would prefer to pull the oil pan.
A lot of some unwanted parts are hidden there, the oil pump screen need to be a good cleaning too!!!
Have done it on my project bike 3 days ago and was surprised about the sludge in there.
It´s not a big think to do but i would do it for engine health reasons.

these bikes don't really have a pan. I'd have to split the case, but for the reasons you mentioned, perhaps I should just do that anyway.

Thanks.

for anyone who may be interested, I pulled the engine and turned it upside down and the missing piece fell out. Heck of a lot of trouble to get this little piece, which apparently can't be purchased separately.

If you're going to reuse it there is a super glue made for plastic with blue lettering that works well. I used it to make a oversized O ring for my pan/oil filter chamber. The welding of the crank journal caused distortion of the case. I don't have it in front of me now (out of town) but I'll post a pic of it when I get home later today.
