The old cap worked just fine. No damage.

A 6mm ball bearing under a spare head nut does the trick, just have to be careful not to drop it in the cases.

Is it just me, or has anyone else had good results but tightening the stud ever-so-slightly, before trying to loosen it? I did use that tool from APE, pictured above, to remove the original studs with ease.

APE made a run of GPz550 Studs about 8 years ago, and I bought 2 sets. Because the GPz550 is lower on the food chain, LOL, I am using the stock nuts, with great success. Looks like they are still making them for the GPz550 today.

Made my own , took a spare head nut drilled and tapped a 6x1.00 hole down the center then screwed in a 6x1.00 mm screw. Put nut on the stud then screw the smaller screw down locking the nut on the stud. When done loosen the locking screw and remove the nut.
