On my town bike, #4Sparkplug threads are a little boogered from the P.O. that looks as though was trying to multi task and threading a spark plug with a beer in his hand. As it was mentioned here a year or two ago what is the name of the tool that can clean this mess up, and where can I get one? I really don't want to pull the head as of yet if I can help it.

Thread chaser. Maybe at AZ, OR or other auto parts stores.

BTW, my daughters Honda car had a cross threaded plug. It wasn't all the way in. I took a thin grinding wheel and put two slices on the opposite sides of a plug and used it to chase the threads. Drove it until it sold.

Its called a back tap chaser, made in USA and for $28.00 and then a chasing tool , Both for $36.00. Id like to keep this 1000 going for the summer along with the Green Go 1075 900. Nice running bikes Both of them. I was planning on Doing a top end on the 1000 this winter just to give sweetie a brake from me waiting on brown santa {UPS}
it will give me time to build up on parts. Its just turned 18K miles

I normally just install a steel insert and red locktight it in and never worry about crossthreading again it can be done with the head on comes with a special tool that threads into the old threads then tapers to the insert size

Use a reverse tap that starts at the deep end where the threads are still good and which will cut anew as it proceeds cutting upward right on through the higher damaged threads.

Attempting with an ordinary tap to start the rethread at the top where the threads are crossed is a dicey proposition and risks damaging the threads even worse than they already are.

Good Fortune! :)

I think I'm going to start gearing up with a cheep bore scope and the reverse tap, then if I have to Ill pull the trigger on a time sert. As far as doing a top end, Ive always believed If I do 1 do them all. meanwhile I'm going to experiment with a vacuum plan.

I've done this to make a thread chaser. I cut in from the sides of the threads to create a sharp cutting surface with an undercut in front.
