Exhaust gasket was created by gordone
Hi,

When I removed the mufflers it was two gasket for each outlet. One thin, see attached photo and then a thick.

These:

And these:

Is there any point having two ? I was thinking only have the one of each (last picture) ?

The thick was used so It was thinner then the picture, but I don`t have picture of it....
Is there any reasons to use two gaskets ?

The exhaust gaskets squished flat by the first use, (one time use only). Some exhaust ports had a lot of carbon on the sealing surface and are uneven. To be sealing the blow by hot gases it is a common "mod" to get the gap closed on the exhaust port and exhaust header with a second used or new gasket.
Suzuki for example use better exhaust gaskets with a thicker crush component range.

Clean the port gasket surface first from carbon and use only one gasket.

I use two with my V/H exhaust. One is not enough.

In all the years I have had Kawasaki bikes, I have NEVER had to use more than one exhaust gasket. Even on my Suzuki bikes, I only needed one exhaust gasket to do the job. I only use O.E.M. factory exhaust gaskets in everything I own or owned over the years.

I just make sure the area where the gasket sits is completely free of carbon. I use a little dab of grease to hold them in place, and tighten down the collars down evenly on both sides. Never had a problem with exhaust leaks there on any of my bikes.

On my 750 with OEM exhaust I spent a LOT of time trying to get the exhaust to seal with only one gasket but failed on a couple of ports. I kept telling myself that I must be doing something wrong but the same thing kept happening. I finally installed a second gasket and the pipes sealed up beautifully. The OEM Kawasaki gaskets are thin and it doesn't take much misalignment to result in a leak. As mentioned, Suzuki gaskets are much thicker, almost twice as thick. That should tell you something right there.

They are generic whichever style you buy, Ebay is a good source for both types, i believe the 900/1000 use 42mm ones, i have only had problems with sealing on one exhaust system, that was a shark racing system i had on a 750 Zephyr, it had no lip on the headers, i resolved this by making aluminum top hat inserts for the headers which increased the area of the mating surfaces, nuts evenly tightened on the collars and not overdone .
