So I recently finished reassembling my KZ650 E 1980 Kawasaki. The engine was redone, new battery, new starter relay, new spark plugs, and new fuses. So i reassembled the bike and when I went to click the starter button there was a harsh noise coming from the starter motor. I took the motor out and checked if it worked, and it did and was very strong. I took a video of what is happening when I do press the start button and I do not know where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated and thank you in advance.

If you are simply trying to see if the bike will start why not just use the kickstarter? Assuming the bike starts and runs ok you can then focus on the electric starter issue. Ed

You can see in your video that your head lamp goes near to dark when you push the starter button and the starter motor
try to turn the engine. Looks like a huge voltage drop = weak battery. Try a jump start with a car battery to confirm
that your starter motor is not the problem.

If you try to jump the bike from a car or other vehicle make SURE the other vehicle's engine is OFF! Otherwise you can seriously damage the bike's electrical system. Ed

Take the plugs out and hit the starter. See what happens.

Nothing ,only a rotating engine without load, working like a air pump.
Problem not solved

Two weeks ago I went for a spin (60 miles). Bike started great in the driveway. Got home and went in to take all my stuff off. Went back out and tried to start to put it in the garage. NOTHING..

It sounds like I had the same problem.. Ruled out the starter and solenoid. I put a volt meter across the battery and hit the starter. Volts dropped to 3.2 volts. So I'm guessing it's the battery. Your headlight says the same thing. I'm waiting for spring to get one.

A battery can go bad in the wink of an eye.

Good luck.

I tried using the kickstarter but the kickstarter mechanism is broken. When I kick it it goes down easily and the pistons do not move. I called a Kawasaki shop about it and they said to just get the electrical working because it would be easier. And thank you for your help.

Also it is a brand new battery where I poured the sulfuric acid in myself and did all that was required. I did the jump to the starter motor and it spun with a lot of power and perfectly fine.

No problem. If the electric starter is not working and the kick starter is not working just bump start (push start) the bike. If you have never done this before take a look at the video below. Take it from a guy who owned a BSA for 11 years - it's very easy to do. Ed

This is one of the reason i use a LiFe-ion battery on my Z1B, pulls like a Hulk!!!
Weight is only 0,900 kg (LiFe-ion battery), lead battery 4,9 kg
Fully loaded in less an hour.
