Z1000j rebore question was created by scotia1000
Hi,
Just bought a basket case z1000j 1982 that had been rebuilt completly in 2011 seen the photos but not sure what he did as it never ran.
I did a compression test (cold without carbs etc) and it was well under 75 on all cyl. added oil and it went up to 140. stripped it down, cyl head ok no leaks. no broken rings etc, but the bores are scored, pistons okay and the rings are under the worn limits with vernier guage. The pistons look stand according to guage measurements, but how to i check the rings to see if they are oversize and it has been rebored?
Can't seem to find what size the barrel bore should be standard?.
Would like to hone it out and put new rings in but not sure what sizes?I live in the sticks so can't really run it in to local engineering shop, but might have to take a road trip,
any help please
jim

Check above link for manual. Inside you will learn how to measure the pistons and bore for excessive wear.
