How many miles on it. Did the bearing tighten up? You can split the cases without pulling the head. I got a low mile KZ 900 tranny, back cut 2nd and 5th myself and put it in. These are pretty tough so don't go there if you don't have to. Hell, the bike was 30 years old before it started popping out of 2nd gear.

About 40k miles. Did not tighten up with sprocket bolted on. :(

Same amount. I'm not sure if it's in the bearing, or between the shaft and the inside of the race. I ran out of daylight. Will have to take a look in the AM.

Would I be better off swapping in an entire used transmission, since I'm sure more than one bearing will need attention? Or just open it up and see what I've got first?


Personally, since the trans has to come out either way, I'd take a close look at what you have before taking a chance on another used gear set of unknown history.
