Timing
24 Jul 2017 10:36
Hello,
i have to rebuild my timing/
Here are some pictures, but timing marks are not totally like the doc picture.
The 28 pin is on the 28 mark. If i try to set the front and rear timing marks like the doc my chain is too tight to place the top guide sprocket....
what do you think?
Thank you

Looks ok.
The arrow on the EX sprocket hardly ever lines up exactly with the head due deck height variance and cam chain stretch etc.
As long as you have counted 28 back from the next pin up from the arrow you can't be wrong and the motor should run just fine.
Always rotate the engine slowly by hand once assembled to check that the timing marks re-align on the second full turn.

Exactelly:
if i just place the EX camshaft like that, i just can have the arrow on the EX sprocket facing the 0 pin lighly up from the desk.
(see picture 3)
- Do i have to let it like that
- Or i can position the front arrow perfectly (like the draw show us) with the 1st Camshaft cap screwed in place?
@ SWest
The camshaft chain tensioner is off.

Didn't notice you hadn't got the cam caps on.
That will give a false reading and you could be a tooth out (timing retarded).
You need the exhaust cam bolted down first to get correct alignment and you may find that you need to move the EX arrow down a pin.
There's enough room to jump the chain on the sprocket with it bolted down.
Once that is done, set the 28th pin and bolt the inlet cam down.
Fit the top idler and then the tensioner.
Once done, rotate the crank by hand to re-check the marks .
