Delkevic down pipes with Kerker muffler
22 Jun 2017 08:56 - 22 Jun 2017 09:08
I have a KZ1000 with a vintage Kerker exhaust the muffler is in fantastic shape but the down pipes are real rusty. Has anybody tried to use the Delkevic down pipes with the kerker muffler? Seems like a great solution Stainless Steel down pipes at a reasonable cost and keep the vintage aftermarket pipe look.

From the internet ---
Delkevic stainless steel headers are highly polished and designed to give a tight smooth line from the head with curved lines beneath the engine to give easy access to the oil drain plug and removal of the filter housing without removing the exhaust. The outer diameter (O.D.) of the outlet collector is 63mm which is a direct fit for the Delkevic Classic Drag silencer or suitable alternatives.
If the 63mm O.D. is correct, would measure the I.D. of the Kerker muffler entry to see if it's over 63mm and to help determine what's needed to achieve a snug leak-free connection.
Good Fortune!

63mm looks good but the collector goes almost to the brake lever nut it seems to stop shorter on the Delkevic

Could be wrong, but don't suspect the slightly more forward position of the Kerker muffler when fitted onto the Delkevic collector would meet with any interference against chassis parts.
Am uncertain where the Kerker muffler attachment tab is presently connected to the chassis (thinking likely the stock attachment position). With Kerker muffler in a further forward position, a hanger strap might need to be fashioned in order to connect the tab to the frame. Here's a pic of mine with a rubber mount that isolates vibration from the frame.
In event the Kerker fits too snugly onto the Delkevic collector, your local automotive muffler shop would likely be able to expand the Kerker I.D. to achieve a perfect fit. This worked very well with my V&H system --left the chrome plating completely intact -- and avoided the option of finish-destroying sanding and/or drum-sanding and/or honing to achieve an acceptable slide-on fit.

Search the forum for a thread with "Delkevic" in the title from about a tear ago. I' m sure there is a post with photos from a Z1R owner who fiited a system and am thinking this would be a similar size bike to your KZ1000.

This would be the right tool to get the right ID or OD for a snug fit.

If you search Delkevic You will find I was the first on here to buy a set even tho I didnt need them. Just thought they where that cheap I would use them someday. Anyhow I picked up a 75 z1 cheap and used them on it with the kerker . All worked fine. If I find a picture I will post it
