Aluminum Cam End Plugs was created by daveo
I recently ordered a set of four machined aluminum cam-end plugs, to replace the original rubber/aluminum type.
Wondering if there is a specific bonding material I should use when installing them, and if the installation is meant to be permanent?

Hi Dave
I use a little Yamabond under the caps and wipe off all the pushes out when installing inside and outside the Head .
Mine are the older type that I reinstall every time the cam cover comes off ( no bolt or hole in them )

You may want to use Hondabond 4. It will prevent leakage but is not a permanent adhesive. I've used it where a non-permanent sealant is called for and never had a leak. Ed

I'm looking for a semi-permanent bond...durable enough to remain sealed through several gasket changes...at-least. :S

I picked up some Yamabond 4 too..... thinking its pretty much the same as Honda's stuff and should last a couple times if your careful. What ever the factory used was good stuff I never had a drip for 30 years even though I had the cover off 6-7 times at least. And for the gasket it lasted that long without leaking or tearing too.... just be gentle taping it to free it up and off. (A trace of grease on the cover will keep it from sticking there and staying on the head).

Isn't there some permanent solution, that wouldn't screw something up? I mean, like...once the caps are in there, why should they ever need to be replaced?

I've been using Three Bond 1211 on my rubber cam-end plugs ever since a retired Southern California police bike mechanic sent me what was left in a tube he used, at least ten years ago. Talk about a recommendation... ;)

Does anyone use Kawabond on their Kawasaki's?

In some rare cases the casting on one side ( left or right ) of the cylinder head, the cam end plug seat is 0,05- 0,10 mm wider than the other side. For this case good eBay sellers put an extra set of 2 end plugs with wider dimensions ( or optional ) to the normal set.
I recommend to measure width dimensions of the seat before. If not available you have to do a little rework on the plug to fit in.
I speak of experience, i had to do it in my case.
The cam end plugs ( the Kawasaki rider here in Germany call them half moons ),normally fits so tight that you can use any kind of liquid gasket ( very thin layer of Hylomar blue ). They never come loose if i pull my valve cover to do a valve job .

I've use the yamabond and like but not Hylomar . I have used the Hylomar spray on copper head gaskets. I ran 1 turbo, in a pinch, with a non oringed block. Over 20# boost and it never leaked oil or cylinder pressure. I use it on all my copper head gaskets now. Never thought about using the blue joint compound but I will now!
