oil seepage was created by DSummerlin
82 LTD 1000. hasn't been run in a couple of years. has been stored indoors, motor out of frame, empty of oil, and occasionally upside down. After a quick clean and paint refresh by member Zuki Dave, we've noticed this little seepage of oil. Figured I should present it to the forum for some sage advice on possible problem and possible solution.

Could be the camshaft end cap ( half moon ) is leaking.
To get on the safe site clean the area with brake cleaner and observe.

Will be looking at it this evening. BTW, u/scirocco, I just picked up a Scirocco a few months ago. It's an 84. It's a lot like my high school car from 30 years ago.

To me it looks like it's seeping around the oil galley plug behind the head bolt.
The bike had been on the side stand for a few days and went to the shop last night I found the oil.

Game plan for now is finish putting the bike back together and see what happens when we fire it up.
If it pushes oil out while running I guess the head will need to come off should be no big deal to pull the plug and tap the hole for a threaded plug.

The oil galley plug behind the head bolt is a press fit aluminum plug.
Before i would remove the head i would try to do a little light hit with a drift punch to stop the leaking.
If you pull the plug(s) you can do a oil line mod like this

I was hoping someone would suggest a light tap with a drift punch. I REALLY don't want to remove the head again.

I've never seen them leak there. Sure it's not the cam end caps?

Not sure about much these days. i suppose we'll see (or not) when we fire it up.

Backstory- i've had the head freshened up with new valves/springs, and guide seals so all new gaskets/o-rings from head gasket up and new cam end caps as well. New copper washers, too.

I guess it could be leaking there and it should be obvious once running.

Also, it still has no oil besides what was left from draining it a couple of years ago, so it's extra weird that it even wants to leak.

I'm not sure they are aluminum. I always thought they were steel. Scratch one to see. You could try to peen the outside with a socket or steel tubing that size if so. I wouldn't try to drive it in for fear of making it worse.
