Web Cam #118 vs #119 was created by loneagle
I'm trying to make a choice between these 2 grinds. I want drop in cams that will work with my 1075 with a 9-1 compression ratio and mildly ported cylinder heads. I see the #119 has a bit less duration at fifty but more lift. What would be the difference in the operating characteristics of these two cams? Looking for something that will give decent low and good midrange power. I'm ride on the street so I'm trying to build the engine accordingly.

Thank you, Yep, I've been doing a lot of searching and I'm a bit confused on what is considered a drop in cam. Some say the #119 will fit, but others say no. I'll eventually figure it out. :)

OK, I read the thread and it was very helpful. I always enjoy all the great info from Larry!

Yup, LC is a sharp cookie. Since the 119 is iffy, I'd probably count on clearancing anyway just to be safe.

Yep, I'll be fine with the #118 cam..... I still might have to do a bit of grinding on the cam, hopefully they'll send me a good one. :)

It was stated in another thread, that slag sometimes needs to be ground off the sides of the lobes in order to clear the tappet bores.

No. you don't touch the cam.
You may have to clearance the head fore and aft of the bucket bore ( see attached pic ) for a non drop in cam to clear as it rotates and also remove the cast alloy crosses on the underside of the cam cover.
Head needs to be off and stripped for this.

I was referring to this post regarding the poor QC these days.

Yes they would BUT don't ever think for one second that drop in means you can drop them in. I've seen more than a couple sets of Web 118s that needed the slag ground off the sides of the lobes on cylinder #4 exhaust or they would grind up the tappet bore. Also make dam certain the sprocket boss doesn't drag n the cam chain tunnel because I've seen that as well.

Quality Control seems to be a thing of the past in this world..... Never take anything for granted when you're dealing with aftermarket parts because you can get bit in a heartbeat.

If you're shopping for used drop in cams, watch out there also. I've had lots of sets of old Andrews 2x where the base circles are all over the place. If you want the best cam you can get.... by Megacycle because nobody comes close to the quality they give you.

Sorry had to chime in, my blood boils at the mention of Megacycle, lets just say never take your cams back to them if you have a problem. I've written in the FJforum about my cam problems, the cams themselves were great, yes I bought old (but never used cams) from a guy in the US, the hard facing started to come off some lobes after 3 months (the usual culprits - oil, heat etc were checked, I've had my Std cams in for over 240K km no problems). I paid (out of warranty obviously) for a new build up of lobes and three months later I found they only fixed the worn ones and wanted more than the cams are worth to fix all the lobes. After some negotiation through a reputable dealer in the US (deals with FJ1200's) to get a better deal especially after the first repair, they told us to "F" off.
Enough said, I would normally never make comments like this using a sellers name.
