yes i definitely do not want to explode while riding... actually just replaced the intake and airbox boots, and cleaned the carbs before mounting everything up!

so all the plugs were white [Cylinder 2-4] running lean!! but cylinder 1 was black, and attached a pic.. I also drained the oil and refilled to the right level, and am not getting oil in the airbox anymore.. Thanks again for the backup, it might be jetting? or seized ring??

I drained the oil and refilled to the correct level, got vaccum caps for ports 1 2 and 4 on carb + capped airbox breather hole. I warmed the bike up with some light riding, and she still has no power as i pull the throttle and backfires alot.. I pulled the plugs and #2 #3 #4 were lean all electrodes were white and #1 was black.. I put some Marvels down cylinder 1 and will pray to the moto gods that the rings are just seized :woohoo: i will do a leakdown and compression test to get a clear read .. still contemplating: rings? petcock/vaccum issue?? jetting?

I think he is talking about the plastic plugs that go INSIDE the carbs, to cover the jets. There is one in each carb.
Click on the link he provided. It's ref # 11012A (click on the description, "CAP", to see the full part Number 11012-1244) which consists of a "cap" and O-ring ref #92055 ( "RING-O,PILOT JET CAP" part number 92055-1337).
The earlier Gpz and the later Gpz don't have them. I think they were only on the 82/83 550 H models.
