1978 KZ400, I had to remove the clutch basket and while putting everything back together i'm left with this part which I really cannot find anywhere in the manual or seem to find a place for on the bike....

   You won't have any clutch without that. :woohoo: It goes in the clutch basket. It pushes against the pressure plate. B)

Ok thanks!
But where does it go exactly? On my clutch diagram I cant see it. I've attached a picture of my diagram
Is it the spring plate pusher?

Yes but it doesn't look like the one in the diagram. Take some pics when you have it open again. Someone may have switched parts. The ball is listed too. It goes in the end of the primary shaft.

Yes ok great that's it,

Now the problem I have is that the bearing won't go in far enough and leaves a gap in between the spring plate and the housing.

What exactly does that steel ball do?

I've noticed my clutch cable has gone completely slack, there is no tension. Does this have something to do with why the ball bearing doesn't fall far enough back into the shaft? And maybe why the shift drum won't budge?

This is from the 440manual but the general idea should bethe same

The the ball comes between the pushrod and the pusher plate

Thanks JR!!

It seems the pushrod is in a bit further and now i'm not able to seat the bearing far enough and so the spring plate does not fully seal.
How do I manage to push that pushrod back? :silly:

You really need to use the CORRECT parts diagram and the correct Kawasaki Service Manual if you're going to work on your bike! Otherwise you will spend far too much $$$ and time overcoming mistakes that could be easily avoided. Ed

The adjuster is in the sprocket cover. Take the cover off and see if the pressure plate fits like it should.
