KZ400 Shift Drum not turning was created by de Courcy
I'm replacing my shifter return spring and after I got the new one in, I went to check the shift lever but the shift drum seems to be seized, and it wont turn. I have attached an image of it, It has 6 pins.

I know it is supposed to move freely without the clutch basket, because there is a video of someone doing just that, with the clutch removed

I followed the manual exactly, and I removed the left case just to see if there was a problem but I came up with nothing.
I would rather not reassemble everything before I know it's working.

Does anybody have experience with this?

I'm wondering if maybe the reason the spring broke is because that shift drum was seized in the first place?

Doubt it. Have you tried turning the countershaft while shifting?

It's going from 1st to neutral and back as it should. It won't shift up anymore unless the bike is moving.

it's not going to first or neutral or any gear.
The shift lever budge and won't turn this shift drum. Seems like the drum is seized or something. It should move freely, no?

The two arms move but they cannot move the pins on the shift drum, the drum won't budge.

No, I found the video in another post, about replacing the shifter return spring.

My spring was also broken but when I replaced it, I noticed the shift drum stopped turning. Before I opened the bike up, it would shift, just not well.

So I am very confused.
The shift drum does not budge and the clutch cable has no tension even after adjusting it multiple times, correctly with the manual. :(

I'm not sure where the detent ball and spring are, or what they look like.
I've got good tension in my clutch cable again, but the bike won't shift up or down. Maybe it's in 3rd gear?

Does the bike have to be running and in motion to shift out of 3rd gear? Trying to figure out why the shift drum isn't turning.
