Gpz oil pump vs kz was created by MadShad
So I've read that the 82 or/and 83 Gpz 1100 oil pumps are better than the older style 900 pumps.
I've not read why.
Anybody know the difference?

Hi Mate,
My Kz900 has one fitted. If i remember correct the shaft that drives it is larger diameter and the drive gear also has a larger hole to mount the shaft, i can remember if there was any other difference, i didnt pull the NEW Gpz one apart to see if the gears were different or not but i was told NOT. It bolts straight on so long as you use the gear that suits it, expensive though.

cheers,
Kt.

Virtually identical, no difference in flow or pressure .
Newer ones have pressure switch on the pump body so blank it off when used in the KZ.
Only advantage is that it might have less wear due to being newer.

Agree, there is no difference apart from the pressure release valve, on the GPZ it is fitted to the oil pump and the KZ already has one on the main engine housing. I fitted the GPZ oil pump to the Z1R (GPZ was like new) and blanked off the valve hole BUT when I fitted my older Z1R oil pump to the GPZ I forgot about the valve so I'll have to drop the sump one day and exchange the pumps back,
I don't think it'll make much difference as the roller bearings will never allow over pressure when hot.

First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)
