Thank you and we understand not having a manual at first. I've worked on countless bikes without one but only the very basic things. Whenever I got a bike in my bay, I would order a manual at my cost if I didn't have one. I was building quite a library and if it wasn't for some Meth head stealing them, I could start taking in bikes to work on in my spare time. :dry:
What I find irritating are the ones that come here asking questions, not getting the answer they want, asking the same questions again. (carbs come to mind and the question was if the valves were adjusted?) In one case the OP was asked if he had a manual or not? He got insulted and said, "Why should I get a manual if I can get the answers here? At that point I stopped offering suggestions to him. He finally agreed to adjust his valves (that was a HWY) :whistle: He then proceeded to dismantle just about every part of his bike with post after post. :blink: I don't know if the thing runs anymore or not.
I'm sure you won't be like that but please if asked a question, 9 times out of 10, it's coming from someone that's been there and are ready to offer valid questions and answers.

Actually, I did hold back. :laugh: Otherwise I might have pointed out that adjusting the clutch cable at the lever is not adjusting the clutch at all; it is adjusting the clutch lever play. The clutch engagement is adjusted at the clutch by adjusting the clutch pushrod adjustment screw. The clutch cable is adjusted at the cable adjuster near the center of the cable. These adjustments are all explained in the manual more clearly than I can explain in a posting.
I understand that folks sometimes have questions that are not answered in the manual, and I understand that sometimes folks may not understand an explanation in the manual. I have tried to answer more than a few such questions over the past several years. However, I have read many postings by folks who have no intention of buying a manual, and those folks end up asking many questions that are clearly answered in the manual. That's not an accusation against the OP. He may intend to buy a manual and may simply be having a hard time finding one for his year and model bike.
If you are trying to find a manual for your bike I suggest you post a message on this site with your bike's year and exact model. There are plenty of folks here who can help find things, or someone may in fact have a manual for your bike that they no longer need or that is in electronic format that they can send you. I've bought bike parts from Sweden, New Zealand, the UK, etc. without any problems so you should be able to receive a manual from any country. Ed

Even trained and skilled mechanics would be up the creek without a paddle if they didn't have service manuals to consult.
Further, the best manual to have is the Factory Service Manual, although they can be confusing / hard to understand for neophyte home mechanics (at first). A pdf will do, but paper manuals are best for easy / quick references in the shop. Just clean your hands before flipping pages!
Also we should recommend owners obtain parts manuals, or at least forward links to sites like Partzilla for exploded parts drawings and numbers referenced to drawings. That helps in figuring out which parts go where, and part orientation.

Seriously, though - I have worked on bikes for nearly thirty years, just about every brand there is, from single cylinder trail bikes to CBX's...I am an experienced heavy equipment and industrial mechanic, went to college for both, and set records at those schools for the best grades in the history of the programs. I have an university engineering degree, and I am now a college engineering instructor myself. I also went to school for and worked as a tool and die machinist. I've wrenched on everything from 50 cc scooters to massive mining walking drag lines that could hold a D8 Cat bulldozer in the bucket. I've designed and built machinery and tools for all kinds of industries including micro electronics and injection molding machines, worked as an automotive machinist building racing car engines that set NHRA records....I could go on, but even with all that, I assure you this - one of the first questions I ask when someone brings their bike to me for repairs is "do you have the service manual or do I need to get one for you?", because I won't even change the spark plugs without one...
