removed cam chain tensioner when not at TDC was created by aenikolopov
Replacing my cam chain tensioner, I removed the old one without putting 1,4 pistons at TDC, which the manual says I should have done. I haven't moved the engine at all since removing the tensioner. Is there any danger in putting on a manual tensioner now? So my questions are:
1) Is there a chance that removing the tensioner at not TDC would allow the chain to slacken enough skip a tooth if I haven't moved the engine? The thing the tensioner pushes against (the part that actually touches the chain) still seems to be against the chain, as it feels a bit springy when I push on it with my finger.
2) How far do I screw in the manual tensioner now? Do I just screw it in by hand until I feel some tension, then take engine to TDC< and then move from there.

Take it till you feel it bottom the back 1/4 turn. Go to TDC and check it again. Be careful not to overtighten it. Damage can result.
