Kz1100 oil cooler was created by brent456
I would like to install a oil cooler to my 1981 KZ1100. Where would I be able to get the oil fittings for the engine. I can find everything else I need but those. Are the other models from kawi that I can use. Been searching with no luck. Thanks for any help!!

I think one of our members gave a link for the late model fittings in my thread.

Unless I missed it. All I saw was a eBay link and it says 73-80. I actually talked to the guy that makes those and GE said they don't fit my bike. He been looking for a used set so he caught machine a set to make more

I thought Z1E had them for the J models.

That's where I look first. The ones he has only fit the 1973 - 1980 kz. I have a 81 as the guy at Z1E and he said they would fit. Said might as here see if anyone might have some or know where to get them

Hey, the stock GPz1100-A's had oil cooler take offs from the usual oil pressure sending unit adapter block...but then, no oil pressure switch - right?

One possible solution is to take the end plug off the main engine oil gallery on the right side of the crankcase and replace it with a 90 deg. fitting and a small oil pressure gauge, or just adapt an oil pressure switch to fit there...

You want the cooler to run in "series" (electrical terminology) after the oil pump butbefore supplying oil to the engine bearings and top end, IMHO.

Check out the forum thread on "The Big Block GPz1400 fuel injected monstrosity", as there is some ideas on keeping the oil cooled on the J models in there...

I have to make a few custom oil cooler adapters for these engines. As I am making them from billet aluminum, I can incorporate anything that you could want, as long as it will fit in the available space. No CNC mill, though, so no externally rounded corners!

Jberger635 (The Big Block GPz1400 Fuel Injected Monstrosity) suggested offering them to KZR members once we had some good working designs for the different applications we are working with. Maybe....but I don't know if I will have the time to do it.

Today I start machining the specially designed billet oil cooler adapter for jberger635's GPz1400. His requires BIG AN hose fittings (dash 8 and 10), so nothing off the shelf will work...

I'll post pictures of the finished part by tomorrow, I hope....

I don't think the 73-80 engine oil cooler adaptor will fit...I don't have any of those around here, but looking at swest's photos, it seems those use 4 bolts to mount to the case, while the KZ-J definitely only uses two bolts!

I have seen billet oil cooler adaptors for the J for sale from a few vendors before, and at $75 - ish, pretty cheap IMO. It won't end there, however. Expect to pay $100 for fittings and hoses, too...

If you go with used GPz1100 parts from evil-bay, be sure to ask what condition the hoses are in - most are soooo old, rotten, and stiff that they are useless - beware of WHY items like that are on EVIL-BAY!
