Is there a way to tell if trans gears have been changed as far as the actual gear ratios ? I really cant see someone doing that on a shaft drive bike but as some of you have seen on my other posts its either that or the new tach is way off.

Take the plugs out, take off the ignition cover, put it on the centerstand, and count turns. Top gear will be somewhere in the range of 1:1 ratio, wheel to crank.... maybe slightly higher on the bigger bikes.

What would I see if trans gears have been changed? Something like 1.5 turns at crank vs wheel ? And by changed I mean bike seems to rpm high

It may be to compensate for the drag created by the shaft drive.

The 1981-83 kz1000/1100 chain drive models all have the same top gear ratio, 1.04 : 1. 25/26 teeth. I bet the shafties have the same.
When Kawi put the 1000 Ninja engine in the first gen Concours, they lowered the first gear ratio to make smooth take offs easier with a passenger and a full load of gear, but left the upper ratios the same. I would not be surprized to find that is the case here.

I have read that the shaft drive 1000 have different trans gears. I know the final drives are different as I have one waiting to be installed on my 1100 when I change rear tire shortly. My calculations say it should lower rpm about 400ish. While it's not a lot it helps. The overall gear ratio is also slightly different between the two bikes with the 1000 being a little higher numerically. Although I have trouble believing anyone would go thru the hassle to change trans gears on a shaft drive bike I can't argue with the rpm this bike is at on highway.
