Leaking oil from head gasket was created by flhwesty
I have a 1983 GPz750. It's rough. I paid almost nothing for it and have rode it to work for 1.5 years (not in January & February). The head gasket has been leaking oil. Now it is LEAKING oil. Can I re-torque the head as a possible fix. I need about a month to get my project bike fixed. I remember reading on this forum about loosening and re-torquing head bolts, but can not find the post.

Yes, loosen just enough to get the nut moving and then tighten. You got nothing to lose. At the same time be sure to take some extra time and adjust the valves if you haven't done it lately.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Probably not the gasket leaking, it's most likely those oval shape o-rings that seal oil passages. Common problem. I hate the fact the 550/650/750 used this design. Rubber gets hard and dry from age and heat and leaks start. They use 100 o-rings it seems like, so keeping from leaking over high miles is a constant battle.

What if you use ape head bolts and get it tightened down more. I’ve thought about trying this on my bike. Wonder if threads are bottomed our in stock nuts

RonKZ is probably right. I'm just about ready to put my 83 1100 back together after it was leaking oil everywhere.
Everywhere was 98% old O-rings.
I tried retorquing first.
It made mine leak worse.
