When idling it comes and goes and if rattling on start up it goes when bike is put into gear

sounds like clutch basket rattle, they all do that. Balancing carbs and a tune up will minimise it.

slappy camchains make noise at higher rpms, in gear and in nuetral. likewise a balancer shaft issue.

Checked cam tensioner check plugs all good there was no noise or rattle when I started it this morning but after checking everything you guys ahead suggested and I started the bike .......hello there is that annoying noise again so I'm looking around the bike and I notice that the kickstart is not quite fully returned so I pushed it back and hey presto noise gone......it's return spring is not working so I guess that when it's not seated fully back there is some gears just touching ....so glad it's nothing to serious .......so took it up the road for a blast in celebration

Well that's great news Cap'n!
Kudo's for sleuthing it out and glad it's nothing major (who actually uses their kick starters anymore anyway?). B)
Now you can install that coveted and rare Kick Starter Keeper Bungee Cord Accessory!

The spring may not have been installed correctly or it's cracked. I'd check it out.

Might just be a matter of giving the spring one more wind. I like having my kick starter. Had to use it a few times in the three years Bossie's been back on the road. B)
