Ok so Im gonna try this again.. last time new rubbers and gasket still leaks. Looks like around left side front rubber location. I used black permatex last time and still leaked. Am I not holding my mouth right ? Anyone that has got this to seal feel free to share your magic...

I use the copper plus silicon. Be sure to put some on the top of the plugs too where the seams are. Grease on the gasket.

I used black Permatex that's designed for oil leak prevention. Instead of leaving a "tube" of material around the holes I dabbed it on like a bingo dabber. Try leaving it to dry for MINIMUM 24 hours, I'd recommend 2 days. In my case I did have a leak at a plug after waiting 24 hours, but it went away the next day with no more leaks. Perhaps you might want to try a different gasket though, I've heard they are not all the same and some are worthless. Maybe the liquid gasket isn't bonding to the hard gasket well enough?
I ONLY put the black permatex on top of the rubber plugs, no where else. After it's applied I set down the gasket, then placed the valve cover on and torque to 87 inch pounds. And clean-clean-clean all surfaces prior to putting the gasket on.

The copper is stickier than the other silicon.

After that I still run a line of sealer across the rubbers to make sure they seal. The gasket should seal on the aluminum surfaces if they are clean and smooth.

New rubbers have to be installed correctly to get set into the right place, it's a two step procedure. You run the black permatext around the rubber curved side of the rubbers and set the cover on without the gasket. Torque it down finger tight JUST ENOUGH to level off the top of the rubbers with the surface of the head and LET IT DRY FULLY (at least 24 hours). Then they will be set in place.76KZ900 wrote: Ok so Im gonna try this again.. last time new rubbers and gasket still leaks. Looks like around left side front rubber location

And there's a good reason why you need to there. The gasket over the rubbers pushes them down more compared to the aluminum surface so it puts a "corner" in the gasket at the edge of rubber to aluminum. Hard to explain, easy to see if you look at a used gasket. The areas of the gasket between two alum sides gets squeezed thinner than where it's over rubber.SmokyOwl wrote: I ONLY put the black permatex on top of the rubber plugs, no where else.

I guess i did pretty much what was here with exception of letting it dry a long time.. I really cant remeber how long. I did put black permatex on rubbers and un the corners . Even on the bolts that go thru the rubbers .
