What did I do wrong? was created by Yetanotherkzrider
I installed my cams earlier, according to the instructions that are everywhere. Now I can't turn the engine over completely. It almost cycles and then makes a tink noise. Did I bend a valve somehow? I'm at a loss.

You must have set it wrong. Don't force it. Recheck the timing.

Is it possible for the cam chain to bind on the crank? I took the cams back out and it cycled fine until I messed with the chain a little.

Yes ! it's possible for the chain to bunch on the crank by a couple of links .
Also possible for the chain miss the crank sprocket and run at the side of it.
Both situations will cause the timing to slip or the crank to lock.

Cams are out again and I found what I believe to be the culprit, a massive chunk of zip tie in the cam chain channel, which also caused the chain to bunch up on the crank. I fished it out of there and decided to take a break. Another question for anyone who might know. When I align the arrow on the exhaust cam up with the surface of the head, it falls back a fraction of a link no matter what I do, unless i hild it there. Normal?

If you are talking of valve spring pressure rotating the cam a little then yes! that is normal.
Also when fully assembled, the timing mark hardly ever lines up exactly with the head surface due to factory tolerances, deck height, cam chain wear etc.
It's usually a mill or two above or below,
As long as it's not obviously a tooth out when it's all assembled it will be ok.

Use extra care installing the cam caps and bolts. :)

Good news! Cams are in and it cycles freely! But after cycling it a few times the lobes no longer match up perfectly on tdc. Am I being pedantic? Or I this due to the fact that I haven't adjusted the tensioner yet?

That's wrong. The arrow should be even or below the head. Count starting with the next pin to 28. Put the tentioner on before turning the engine.

Damn. I thought that looked even. So it needs to go down more? And the only tensioner I have is the manual APE brand, so how should I go about that?

Might be the angle. The arrow is on a even pin but the 28 is on a odd one. Should be right. What condition are the rollers in?
