Got the leaks stopped in the cam plugs now my second test ride showed me a pretty good leak from what looks like the clutch cable where it goes into the case. It's loose and wiggles. I can't find an O-ring on the parts fiche so I'm not sure what my next step is. It doesn't look like any parts are missing from the cable but that shouldn't be loose and wiggly where it goes into the clutch housing should it?

Don't fix it until it's broken.

Not yet. Been working on bikes all day and just found the leak. I'll open it up soon. Probably when I change the oil to minimize the mess of opening it up. My bad for posting without looking. I just wanted to see if others thought the clutch cable being loose was normal. Can't imagine it is..... cause it's leaking!

Don't fix it until it's broken.

Yes I downloaded the manual from this site. KZ1000 KZ1100 80 to 83.

I did a little searching and determined that it should not be leaking oil there. So something under the left rear engine cover is leaking and it's coming out where the clutch cable goes in behind that cover I would imagine. In any event I'll pull the starter cover and that side cover tomorrow and take a look. I was hoping it would be the shift shaft seal but that seems dry back there. I'll put the bike on the lift so I can see better and it makes working on them easier when I can stand. Crawling on the ground at my age is to be avoided....

Don't fix it until it's broken.

Could the cable have been over-oiled?

Not by me. I got the bike two weeks ago and spent that time getting it running. It sat out doors for about a year prior to me buying it. I lubed the throttle cable but haven't touched the clutch. I'm talking about a lot of oil dripping, not just a couple of drops. So far it only leaks after a short ride then stops. I'll pull that side cover off and see where the leak is coming from today.

I'm not real familiar with KZ models but I think the alternator is on that side and I know, from experience, that the the stator wires have to come out of there somewhere. And I'm also familiar with those grommets are prone to leaking. So best guess so far is ... I don't know until I open it up and look.

Don't fix it until it's broken.

Took the cover off and really not sure where it came from but looks like the stator wires. The Starter O-Ring is well above the wet part. I cleaned up under that cover pretty well and I rode it a bit this evening and left it on the side stand. I'll check but if if is that grommet I've got some High Temp RTV that I used on the stator wires on my HD that worked pretty good. Been over a year and still holding on the Harley.

Thanks for all of the suggestions but I think I have it covered from here.

Don't fix it until it's broken.

If its a lot of oil my guess is bevel gear case gasket or one of the two seals for clutch rod or the gear selector. R
