KZ440 LTD Possible Clutch Issue was created by BornAgainBiker
There is a rhythmic chirping/scraping noise while the bike is in gear and moving that seems to be coming from the clutch case area. The noise goes away if I pull the clutch lever in while driving.

There also seems to be a lot of clatter coming from the clutch case area at idle--this also goes away when I pull the clutch lever in.

It looks like I am going have to pull the clutch side engine case and take a look at the clutch basket. I was wondering what I should be looking for that might be causing the noise?

Out of curiosity does it make a difference in sound depending on the rpm you are at while moving? The clutch on the 440 I have found to be a pain in the but to get set perfect although that could just be me :silly: . have you double checked the clutch adjustment ? Just so it can be ruled out.

- good luck

The clutch adjustment is good, and oddly the sound seems to be related to bike speed rather than engine rpm.

Hmmm, hope it's not a bearing going out. I might be mistaken but clutch basket issues are usually affected by RPMs . probably need to inspect to verify what the problem is.

- good luck

JR do you mean just ignore it? Sounds good to me, but I just have to ask--what's the reasoning? :)

If chain drive, would inspect chain for proper slack adjustment and assure it's properly lubed, and kink-free.

Good Fortune! :)

I knew that sounded too easy. :) I just thought that you knew what it was and knew that it was nothing to worry about. Oh well, off comes the clutch case.

Good point, considering that the noise is related to bike speed, I think I'll start my search in the output shaft bearing area. :)
