KZ650C oil filter was created by wrenchmonkey
Hi gents,
Quick question. Is the oil filter for my 1979 kz650-C *really* different from the same kz650-B ?
I have a FRAM CH6012 which says it fits 650-B but when I searched online the FRAM part number CH6013 is listed for the 650-C ...
Dang. Even a simple oil change is going south quick

The KZ650-B and C models use the same oil filter, but FRAM makes a really poor filter. I would not use it. K&N-401; Mobil-1 M1MC-172; Purolator, WIX; Hi-FLo; etc. are all better choices. Ed

Hey Ed. Thanks man. This filter was only for the rebuild process & testing once the engine is back together. So maybe an hour or so use & then dump & change.
Think this FRAM is good enuff for this?
Funny cuz it looks identical to old slimey filter i pulled out of the KZombie.

Just for info, CH6012 is the correct filter, CH6013 is the larger filter used on Z1, KZ1000s ect. I never used the Fram, but would imagine it would be fine. Maybe not the best available filter, but good enough to use and not worry.

I agree on Fram filters being adequate. The filters on our KZ's don't have a bypass valve or anything else which could cause problems. Just pleated paper of the proper size.
