Proper technique for installing valve seals? was created by Madtrout
Can anyone give me the proper technique for installing valve seals? Do you use assembly lube? How much pressure to seat? Thanks in advance, Mark

Smear them with a bit of oil and pop them on with your finger.
The inside of them has a ridge which locates in the groove near the top of the guide.
Can't go wrong.
When fitting the valves ensure there are no burrs around the stem tip , oil them up and rotate the valve as you slide it up through the seal.

I use a socket that contacts the outside periphery of the seal but doesn't press on the inner lip, along with an extension, to assure the seal is fully seated on the guide. Some oil on the inside of the seal assists in the seal sliding in place more easily.

like zed i pop em on with my finger,
but i slide a pick through them and slip the pick in the guide bore to help line it up as it slides down.
then just push em on.

This is a technique from Nels (Noblehops) from a build thread.
www.kzrider.com/forum/11-projects/600077...-a-1975-z1?start=200
you can scroll down to this picture, he explains his way.
Use more than oil! Assembly lube or silicone grease. Yes, always be careful. And I always have more than 8 on hand. In case you trash one.
More tricky if you use the thinner Viton seals.
