Simple 750 motor mount question was created by tri650
I have a 1982 Gpz 750 and having an issue with the front engine mounting nuts not running flush with the mounting hole once you push the bolt through. The engine casing seems to have a lip where the mounting hole would meet the nut, meaning the nut is not flush with the mounting hole. There is about a 1/2" gap that exists because of the lip. I thought maybe the lip was there to keep the nut in place, but I can't slip the nut into that space. It is this way on both sides. See pic below. Any thoughts?

The proper sized nut has a 14mm hex. The nut you are using looks like a 17mm hex. You gotta find the proper nut.

To me it looks like you're doing it backwards. On my bike the nut is outboard; the bolt head fits in the engine slot. Ed

The bikes with the rubber mounted engine mounts (like this GPz) use a different mounting arrangement than your 650.

BTW, pretty sure I've got the mounting hardware you need tri650. PM me if you get stuck and can't find the nut.

Thanks for the replies and I appreciate the offer of the nuts. If you have them can you measure across? I just want to make sure of the size across. I thought I had the right nuts but they must have a smaller outside diameter. If I can't find the right ones I will send you a PM.

The engine case is shaped in such a way to hold the nut tight. You have to have the nut oriented in just the right way or it won't fit into the notches in the case.

No - but can't imagine what will fit in that space. I am going back out to the garage to see if I am missing something.

Good question. Try flipping the screw around the other way.
