Am I At Top Dead Center was created by kzharpe
I had to set my bike back to top dead center tonight (77 kz650) and I am not 100% sure I can call the night a success. I lined the 1/4 cylinder mark up on the crankshaft, lined my arrows up at the top, and counted the links. My factory manual says there should be 36 links. Well I was one link off. I bumped it down a link and got what I was looking for. Only problem is that one arrow is buried and the other one is perfectly level now that i have that 36 link gap. At 35 links they were perfect and now it just doesnt seem right. ill post some pictures so you get the idea
Here is where i lined up the camshaft
This side is level
This side is buried
When I split the difference and even them out this is what it looks like on the bottom, its pretty much lined up with the F mark

On my Z1 the exhaust arrow is just slightly below the case. One tooth back it will be too far. The number of pins is the important thing. I don't know about yours but on mine I count starting with the next pit up.

You need to soak stubborn bolts and other fasteners with Kroil for a couple days before trying to remove them. You will be surprised at how well it breaks the bond and makes them easier to remove; this stuff really does work! It's a million times better than dealing with broken or stripped fasteners. I will absolutely be getting some of that penetrating oil. This was an absolute nightmare trying to fix. Some good did come of it though
