Cam chain tensioner part was created by Madtrout
Starting to reassemble the top end on my 1982 GPz750 and I see that I have to take off this rubber piece off (Cam chain Guide Damper) to extract the Cam Chain Guide Shaft. I guess I should replace the rubber bit, but I am wondering if this piece is glued on or just held in place? Any advice would, as always be appreciated, Mark

They are made of rubberized plastic. They get stuck on the shaft. If you are getting new parts, buy new ones, if not a dab of silicon will hold them in place.

Photo diagram E71 in the factory service manual (page 62) details installing those dampers, including where to apply sealer (they SHOULD be stuck to the shaft). I don't think there is any reason to replace them, although doing so won't hurt anything.

Ah, Indeed it does. Thanks for that. I did go ahead and order the parts, cheap enough while everything is apart and the weather is decidedly un-moto. Mark
