From what I have heard fro owners of a MAC System, stay away from them. Used bike that already have a system on them could be another choice. There are street systems and race systems. Race systems are tucked under the engine for clearance, and will need to be removed to change the oil filter.
These are just a few of the ones out there.

They have a complete system for the KZ750L1-3 for 256 GBP and it cant take a lot of mods to get them to fit the R.

The box for the Supertrapp system I've got suggests the '82 GPz750 and the KZ750/700 L-model bikes both take the same system. I believe the difference between these and the regular KZ750E system is the triangular muffler hanger brackets are different.

More or less...the two models are certainly similar...however, if you ever purchase aftermarket 'case savers' they mount completely differently and are not interchangeable.

Not sure what the deal is with the engine mounts. Looks like both the l's and the R1 use the same rubber engine mounting parts in the front. The L model seems to have some added frame brackets under the engine though. At any rate, I think the exhaust systems mount similarly if not the same.
Here is are some photos showing the Supertrapp header instruction info. Note that all the KZ750 bikes use the same header, but the muffler/mid pipe sections vary, and the R1 and the L models use the same part number

The R1 and L3 has the same engine mounts among a lot of things.
What’s most interesting in this case are the STAY,MUFFLER,LH (Ref # 35011-1121) and STAY,MUFFLER,RH (Ref # 35011-1122) basically the plates that supports the original exhaust and the passenger foot pegs.
The right hand side plate is most commonly used to anchor aftermarket 4-1 exhaust megaphones.
I will not be a witness for all brands, but I know for sure that the Vance & Hince and Devil exhaust use that plate for the rear mount, as I went through a number of those during my track days.
Anyhow, the part number for these plates are the same on the R1 and L3 therefor it will be most reasonable to assume that a exhaust from a L3 will fit a R1. I will not commit seppuku if I am wrong, but one thing is for sure, the E model exhaust will not be a direct fit as these plates on the E has another part number.
But if worst comes to worst, Stein adjust the holes a little.
