Opinion on Welded Exhaust Stud Repair? was created by z1kzonly
Was wondering what people feel about welded 6mm exhaust stud holes for the Z1 900's & KZ 900's.
I have done this many times over the years.
I have sold heads that were fixed.
Now, I have another one that will be sold.
Just wondering if you Guys feel it is inferior to original non- welded? Will it reduce the value of a Z1 cylinder head?
This is welded by a professional welder, heli- arc, tig person. We have built motorcycle frames and drag cars.
Drilled and tapped with NO heli-coil used.
Thanks for some opinions!
Here are some pictures:

Don't think I'd pay the same price for a welded head compared to an original, however if the repair is done properly it should be perfectly serviceable.

I wouldn't think there would be any problem with such a repair. Perhaps it's an optical delusion but that stud looks to be tapped at the wrong angle in all three pics.

It does look like it needs a blue tablet in a couple of the pictures.

I agree with Nessim I wouldn't pay as much, and would prefer one not repaired, but in all honesty once the exhaust is on with the flanges you aren't going to see it, so as long as it's mechanically sound it's not an aesthetic problem more something that will just bother some, others won't care. At least your being honest and telling them.
