Another gasket tip. Soak the gasket in ATF prior to install and it will never stick to any case again. never had one leak over 20 years on various other bike models.

The cam end plugs and tach drive all have rubber parts that shrink and harden with old age causing leaks. The valve covers themselves are often pretty lose, I think perhaps the gaskets shrink or something if the bike sits and no oil gets on them, it's not unusual to find some of the bolts are finger tight. You can try retorquing it to the correct figure, but unless it's really loose it sounds like you need new gaskets and seals.

I plan on removing my gas tank and checking the torque of my cam cover bolts (I have a small leak), especially after reading your post, as its not overly involved a novice mech like myself.

Be careful and check the torque figure in your kawasaki manual. The figure will be in inch pounds and don't over do it as these holes will strip just as easy as cam cap holes.
Otherwise no problem

Be sure to use a torque wrench calibrated in INCH pounds. Do NOT use one calibrated in FOOT pounds even if you do the foot lb to inch lb conversion because torque wrenches are not accurate at settings which are lower than 20% of their highest setting. Ed
