- Can the starter clutch be accessed by removing various parts and tipping the bike on it's side and not have to remove the engine?
- Because parts are not available is there any homespun procedures that could be done to renew the starter clutch. I have access to very good machine shops in my area and if the springs are bad possibly find some that may match up to it
If anyone has any advice thanks in advance- hate to give up on the bike

Do not assume the parts are not available; I believe the parts actually are available as they were used on many newer models.
Forget trying to find non-original parts to fix the problem. The springs will certainly not be the only parts that must be replaced. Buy the genuine parts, and be sure to replace ALL the parts in there including the 58 tooth starter sprocket.

If you don't want to tackle the job, you can acquire the parts you will need so you don't get jacked up prices from a shop, & there is a shop that works on old kaw's that are very knowledgeable, It's in Kenosha Wisc.

Partzilla has good part prices, although they are not the fastest.
Good luck and agree on checking the archives. There are dozens of threads, including one recently, on how to fix the starter clutch.
