I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with the delkevic exhaust system available from z1 enterprises or if someone with general exhaust system experience could give me a best guess on how I should re-jet my carbs if i was going to run that system with pod air filters. It says on the delkovic website that you can run stock jets so long as the exhaust is fully baffled.

You need a jet kit if using pods. Something like Dynojet kit 2102. About $100. Sigma sells a cheaper kit but it doesn't come with as many parts. If you use the stock airbox and the full baffle you can try going sans jet kit. Oh, and make sure to purchase real pods from K&N or maybe APE. Don't use those cheep junk Emgo pods

BTW, I have a Dynojet kit I'm not going to use. PM me if you would rather purchase from a member here vs. ebay.

For delkevic exhaust info do a KZR search for Delkevic. Many of the posts are from just a few topics, so you can wend your way thru the hits rather quickly & also focus on the stuff about the KZ650 & 750. Here are a few topics & a couple of quotes.

Delkevic pipes - Z1 Enterprises ... .... 1980 KZ750 E1 ... ..... 1977 KZ650

By vadersdad: I just received Mine last evening. 3 days from order to delivery. I was not disappointed in the Pipe. The welds are flawless, the finish Top notch. (1980 Kz750E1)

By etbike3135: I installed one this weekend. Ill get some more pics. I really like the quality of the exhaust. It even comes with gaskets. Sounds great too, very deep and much louder then a standard Kerker. Couple of things I noticed. It hangs a bit low under the bike, Kerker is tucked up more. I think it makes it easy to bash the bottom of this exhaust. Also the megaphone comes right out at the axle bolt so if you want to get the rear tire off you'll have to take the megaphone off.(Z1, KZ1000 or 1100?)

I was considering a Delkevic for my 750 but decided to pass after seeing how low it hangs. Interestingly, I've got a Supertrapp header and it also hangs low, as does the ZX-7 pipe made by Kawasaki. Everything hangs low other than maybe a Marving or the stock 4:2 systems.

Other then going for looks or replacing a damaged set of pipes... I can't imagine any header system being worth a tinker's damn if it didn't also require rejetting. Is there two Ts in rejetting?

The chart below is from a magazine article by Joe Minton. Take note that only a couple systems make more power than the stock pipes. This test was performed with the airbox lid off and bumping the main jets a few steps. Bottom line: don't expect much if any power increase by installing a header. Most headers are lighter than the stock system though so there is always that. Plus, for people with a trashed exhaust on their bike today, a nice shiny header is a thing of beauty regardless of what it does for power.

Interesting, but measuring at the same rpm for each system is misleading since different configurations make maximum power at different rpms.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'm going to go with the delkevic system and play around with the dynajet kit and where that gets me. And to go off topic here, I'm eliminating the emission control system that comes on the US version. What's the best way to go about doing that?

1. Buy a Eoro-spec valve cover that never had the system in it and give the whole system a heave ho.

2. Make some sexy aluminum plates to replace the top of each reed case, give the rest a toss. (See APE Raceparts for their version for the 900/1000 engines.)

3. Get a short length of hose to connect the reed boxes together and give the rest to a local landfill.

Don't forget to plug the vacuum port on the appropriate carb.

I'm particularly fond of the part where that junk gets tossed.
