Alternator stater from z1partsinc. was created by SWest
I bought a new stater from them two weeks ago. I have two used ones but they were putting low A/C voltage. Good enough to charge the battery but little else. I put it in and checked the voltages. 40-50 volts at idle, more at 4000 RPM. Good to go. :) There was a leak coming from the grommet area so I just took the cover off. CRAP. The wires were rubbing on the starter gear. One was frayed. I soldered it and bent the hold down over to keep the wires in place and out of the way. The grommet is thin where the wires go through. I cleaned it up with carb spray and sealed around the wires inside and out. I also filled the cavity on the outside. The grommet from Z1E sealed without having to do this. They sent me a e-mail asking me to give my thoughts in their survey. I'm glad I waited and after I cool down, I'll send them a e-mail telling them of this. That little strap is all that keeps the wires from coming into contact with the gear and in place.
