A good set of JIS screwdrivers, or carefully modified Phillips, will be a good idea, too.

I'm a general motors tech for a living, I have lots of tools and diag equip. But this is my first bike and I have a wife and 2 kids. So I'm just trying to reach out and get info from people who have done it.
Also..
I do want a service manual... my title says 1980 kz1000-p. And I do t know what has been done to this bike, previous owner also said he had put the smooth bore carbs on it, so maybe it didn't have those stock?.. just don't wanted to be pointed in the wrong direction with a service manual on certain issues

If u have spark on all four plugs... Then carbs need a good cleaning. Meaning completely apart. If u still have issues with #1 not firing then check your valve clearance.

It's been firing on all 4 lately. The number 1 plug was fuel fouled... i suspect carb issues (still... damn pods).. in rode it ND it seemed fine. Little bit of midrange hesitation and little gurgling from off idle to abt 5k and seems to loose it's momentum around 8k.. I think the number one was fuel fouled because I had petcock open ND bike Lenin on the side stand for like 5 min before I started it. Today after riding all 4 cyl were at abt 585 degrees right t where header comes off the head when I pulled in the garage. I'm wondering if the clip height for needle needs adjusted. Iv never messed with or checked needle height. Possible previous owner could have messed with it... running 120 mains and 17.5 pilots where would be good clip height to start with?
