Exhaust copper o-ring to thin
23 Aug 2015 19:02 - 23 Aug 2015 19:04
I'm putting the finishing touches on my project 76kz900 and found to have an exhaust leak.
Seams like the copper ring are too thin.
Exhaust clamps are tight against the block.
Also notice the lip of the exhaust installed is thinner then a n extra Kerker I have but can not use.
Is there a a brand that are thick?
I'm using Vesrah

I took some aluminum wire, about 1/8" thick, made a ring, then flattened it for my Susie exhaust flanges. They are deeper than stock.

Not trying to insult you but did you install new exhaust gaskets?

Z1Enterprises.com sells various fiber exhaust gaskets that are thicker than the stock type.
Search exhaust gasket.

Longer collars would have worked in my case but it isn't a stock app. I had to shim behind the collars. Doubling up will work too.

I have one exhaust port which always leaks with a single copper donut washer so I Krazy glue two together and install as a double.

Yes...new copper gaskets.
I have three set of split collers all same length.
It the lip on the exhaust is thin.
I have aluminum wire...going to shim it.

Sometimes one of the old gaskets works okay as a shim to be used along with a new gasket.
Some Permatex hi-temp copper sealant may also help.
Which I generally apply to help hold the new gaskets in position inside the ports while positioning the pipes, collars, and clamps into the ports and onto the studs.
Good Fortune!

I have used Suzuki 750 cc exhaust gaskets in my KZ900 for years, they are thicker and seal better.
