So i took my carbs off and cleaned them, changed the oil and put new pod style air filters on( already had them). The bike idles better than ever on the choke. As i lower the choke the bike never seems to warm up but just drops the rpms. Then as soon as i hit the throttle the bike dies. I think it floods because the bike wont start again for a long time and the plugs are black and smell like gas. Could i have put the throttle back wrong or changed the air/fuel ratio with the new filters. What could be the problem. The bike ran fine with a rough idle before i took the carbs off.

Rough idle. Routine maintenance first. Timing, valve adjustment etc. then go on to the carbs.

Not sure rough was the right word to describe it. It was more of a little bounce in rpms when warming up. Once itwas warm everything was good. Carbs were pulled to check jet size (118) and to see how clean they were from the PO.

Check your valves. The're the most neglected item on the list. Tight valves will make the bike act like a carb issue among other things. Some guys are just too lazy or cheap to do them. They'll just sell the bike when it starts acting up.

You need a manual.

Some pod designs are prone to obstructing the entrance to the pilot air holes (see #2 in pic below) at the intake sides of the carbs.
Here's one method to clean the pilot circuit.
