Valve clearance and sticky valve

morning all

got a 1978 kz1000 ltd that I need some help on.

so I had to go into motor to replace cam chain guide and while head was off figured I would do a valve job. Just lapped and new valve seals.
Bike ran fine before doing this.
I put back together and installed cams and went to rotate with the 17mm nut and heard a pop!...I know which valve because I had a small puddle of oil in there and seen the splash. Looked down and bucket was stuck down. Rotated a little more and another pop from the same bucket..it .popped back up. checked valve clearances and many valves had no clearance but the one stuck was in tolerance.

Any suggestions
thank you in advace

Could be a fouled up valve guide from your "lapping paste valve job" or simply a bent valve from installing the cams incorrectly and that sucks....or the bucket has a large burr and is getting hung up in the bore.
Most likely a bent valve though.

Hey Steve

I opened up once and took valve out and cleaned extra good and inspected for straightness. It looked good and didn't feel any restriction.
I also did leak test on all valves and all was ok. Thought for sure that would do it. But nope...same damn thing.
So now im thinking maybe something to do with bucket???

Thanks

The valve keepers can be tricky. Some say you don't have to change them and I have reused them too. Sometimes they can look seated but not. I always tap on them to be sure they are. The manuals say to replace them.
I'd take another look.

Same thing happened to me when I assembled using the wrong timing marks on the cams. Bent valves.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
