So, 92055-1148 the ridiculously expensive o-ring which you need 4 of to reinstall the cylinder head on a KZ1000, and of course none of the gasket sets out there seem to contain any.

The tricky thing about these is their 2.5mm x 4mm oval/rectangular profile. I can't even find o-ring stock with a suitable profile to make my own.

Are people really paying ~$30-40 for a set of these on ON TOP of a head gasket and that infernal camchain gallery o-ring?

The OEM ones aren't even that good... They're just nitrile, which hardens and cracks after a few years installed.

Are people substituting something? Do the fancy Cometic head gaskets eliminate the need for these?

40.00 with postage is the standard price as they are a unique size. Z1 Ent are the go.

Get the ID and thickness and you can find them all over the net. I ad to get some VITON rings to fix my floor jack. They even sell them on ebay. You can sometimes find them locally at Home Depot and some plumbing supply houses. I found an actual O ring supply place here and the guy "sampled" me a bunch of rings I needed for free. Sometimes you get lucky.

I got a 100 pack of a Viton ring I needed from these guys for $8 including shipping.

I'm not talking about any o-rings. I'm talking specifically about the very unusual 2.5mm x 4mm oval profile cylinder head o-rings. Not even mcmaster has this kind of o-ring or even any o-ring stock to splice your own with.

Ah, the Ron Ayers price is a little more reasonable. I wonder why they never showed up in my google. It's still one expensive piece of rubber.

With most of these things, such as the carb mixture screw o-rings, I can get 100 from mcmaster + their highway robbery shipping for less than the list price at Z1E etc for only 4--and half the time that's with better rubber (viton).

That's the kind of deal I'm looking for. I want to buy or make these from an alternative source (that is, not by the official kawasaki part number) so that for the rest of my life I'll never have to be bled out of $40 again for 4 stupid o-rings.

I already bought the ones partzilla sells before I asked the question (because I need them ASAP) but they're taking their sweet time shipping. I'm probably going to have to take the head off of a different KZ1000 motor soon though and don't want to get caught by this scam again.

Yeah, I noticed... The Z1E price is the one that shocked me in the first place. Plus, I'm still waiting on stuff I ordered from them 5 weeks ago. Nice of them to let you know in the fine print that none of the gasket sets include the o-rings required to put the head back on. I'd be up and running right now if I weren't waiting on these stupid o-rings.

That's why I voted with my feet as far as Z1E is concerned. "Stock what we sell" yeah right.
