setting advancer on 78 kz1000 was created by richard
there is reference to setting the advancer at 2500 rpm (Im using a DYNA S plate witch I had to extend the slots quite a bit )
using the strobe light on the last line....no problem
but when I raise the rpms to 3000 plus the line keeps moving over until it maxes out around 4000
by then the line is in a different location ?????

was told by a lifetime z1 owner drag racer to max out the advancer ,should be around 4000 and that will be the line you set the dyna plate to

manual says one thing, would like to hear opinion

what is the result of setting it at 4000 not the 2500
or is the springs too tight and it would have maxed out to the advancer stops at 2500 rpms

Sounds to me like it's time to remove the advancing mechanism and clean it very well

That's what was meant by it being the lazy way to do it. It was explained points are more accurate being they can be set for dwell and timing. On the Dyna S, you set it at full advance with a strobe and let the advancer retard the timing. I have one and it works but I don't trust it. I carry my points plate and cam under the seat. JUST IN CASE.
