77 kz 1000 valves

thanks for the last replies...got to checking those valves and just want some second opinions (current Kawasaki dealerships are clue less on these old bikes) So after getting a good system going with the "BATWING" tool, it worked fine. Now to the shimming, intake valve 1 was measured at .008 with a 220 shim (2.20mm) to get to the higher side of the tolerance (.004) and with each shim increasing by .002 I would need to use a 230 shim? Also on a couple of valves I had .005 clearance (.006 would not fit and the .005 was snug) Is that OK? replacing a shim on those would take me to .003. I havent purchased the shims yet as to why Im asking.

Go with 225 and leave the others alone. .005 is fine. They will seat in as time goes on. Better a touch loose than tight. You'll find there is a small variance in sizes and cam bearing slop can be a factor here. I always buy a couple sizes smaller while I'm at it.
