You can bend valves very very slightly, one of my bikes the po had it race tuned it for track use with oversize valves, high lift cams etc. A missed gear caused a couple of valves to bend, so slight that it took precision measuring by the valve specialist to even show up. Other times you can get valves so badly bent that it can be seen at a glance.
I think the limiting factor for rpm on these bikes is valve float, newer 16 valve heads can rev higher as the smaller and lighter valves have less inertia.
Without a coherent description of your problem it is difficult to diagnose.

I'd say you would notice it immediately. A ticking sound and loss of idle or power. It is common to be coming up to a light and shift down only to realize I've pegged the red line and shift up to get through it. Then it's about listening to the engine for that dreaded tick. I'm glad I changed my valve springs. My old ones had my butt puckering I don't know how many times.
I dropped a valve in my 350 Honda. No fun. It turned into a marble. I carried it in my pocket for good luck until I lost it.

That description says a lot....problem is not with the clutch.....nor with redlining as 6500 rpm is in the middle of the bike's happy power band. The problem lies with whatever caused a "Loss/drop of power".....so you have to chase down the usual suspects. Fuel delivery, spark at the right time and compression. From the pic you show you have a Dyna electronic ignition which is aftermarket but a very good one. Do you have a Factory Service Manual? Everything you need to test/troubleshoot is detailed in there, except for the Dyna. You can call them and ask for some tech help in diagnosing the problem, they are a good bunch.

From your original post it sounds like your clutch slipped. Happened to me a time or 2 when I bought my 550 because someone before me "set the clutch up for racing so you don't have to pull the lever so far." Needless to say, he unscrewed the adjuster on the cable too far to "race" with it. That doesn't mean you necessarily redlined it. The only way you'll know that is if you saw the tach. Or, if you start noticing issues.

I definitely need to check timing but I'm itching to see the condition of the valves and springs. What I've read valves are very important to check. But like I said my gauges bounce so I'm not sure if they are at all accurate when they simmer down

Check your valve adjustments. Don't go tearing into it unless you have to.

Blink, get you Dr Spock ears on here. A few simple diagnosti tools: compression meter, vacuum meter(s), electrical multimeter, feeler guages and your ears will help you narrow down yourproblem.
If you start pulling it apart on an "is it that, is it this" approach you will spend a fortune on bits. Leave that to franchised main dealers charging £70 an hour plus tax
