New battery. Have you tested the charging system. Do you have a manual? Pics?

Check with Z1Enterprises,Marion,New York, they sell Manuals, many auto parts stores can order Clymer manuals. As far as checking the charging system, if you know how to use a VoltOhm meter, start bike ,Let it warm up, have someone keep throttle at around 4,000 rpm , look at Volt reading on battery terminals with the Volt Meter, should be around 14-16 volts , at least that's how manual says to check my '75.900. Just my .02......
You also may have a loose or corroded connection .I am sure Steve West or 650Ed or someone else may have more idea's.
Good Luck and I hope you find the problem, Let us know how it turns out!
Regards
Ed

I have a Climer here  , it covers 73-80 bikes. I use for reference. Best if you get a factory one. Try eBay. Has it been sitting? Pics?
